Dovetail drawer joints.
Dovetail joints are among the most aesthetically pleasing joints and commonly used in Most of expensive furniture. The strength of the dovetail joint comes from two things: the mechanical interlocking of the pins and grooves, and the incredibly large gluing surface that the crenelated ends provide. This makes the joint ideal for high-stress uses such as attaching drawer fronts to the drawer cases: Every time the drawer is pulled open or slammed shut, the drawer front is undergoing extreme stresses. The dovetail joint ensures the drawer front can never separate from the case under normal usage.
Metal Drawer Runners
The biggest benefit to metal drawer slides is their exceptionally smooth sliding motion. This is due to the use of wheels and ball bearings that allow the drawer to slide in and out with very little friction. Wood drawer slides, while perfectly usable, do not slide with as much ease as metal drawer slides.
Hardwood Dowels
Dowel joints are the most reliable joints in Solid wood furniture and are one of the most common adhesive-based furniture assembly joints in most expansive furniture. Dowel joints have advantage to
Allow precise alignment of parts and substantially reinforce the joints.
Solid wood Drawer that will last you a life time!
In our professional opinion if you're not making at least 12-15mm thick solid wood dovetailed drawer boxes with at a minimum 6mm ply bottom that's Fastened in and glued square and snug, than you're making a lower end draw box. It's not a craftsman tradition for any old reason, it's because it is the strongest way to build the drawer box. At LivingStyle we like to do the right thing knowing our stuff will outlive my customers.
